In 2017-2018, WEAR Sustain (Wearable technologists Engage with Artists for Responsible Innovation) ran as a Horizon 2020 research and innovation initiative to shift development of the wearables and e-textile landscape towards a more sustainable and ethical approach.
WEAR Sustain fosters cross-disciplinary, cross-sectoral collaboration through the co-design and co-development of ethical, critical and aesthetic wearable technologies and smart textiles.
The winning projects of two open calls will lead new approaches to design, production, manufacturing and business models to help entrepreneurs, stakeholders and citizens become more aware of the issues involved in making and using wearable technologies, and demand better from technology companies, manufacturers and governments.
The Creative Ring and its partners have actively been supporting WEAR Sustain. Specifically, largely thanks to the efforts of Luscinus and the Creative Ring Eindhoven team, 9 Dutch projects were able to secure €450k funding in total. Several of them also relied on the coaching and expertise of Luscinus during the execution of their projects. And Luscinus initiated and coordinated the exhibition “Do (not) feed the makers”, in which all winning projects of open call 1 were featured during Dutch Design Week 2017.
